Abrams:"Fascinating and absorbing! Robertson really tells it like it is." L. Ford, Creative writing instructor; Poet:....I have been enjoying your new book, Love Songs, with its haunting melodies and sad refrains. I like how your spirit animates the whole work from the opening with the little girl in braids and her encounter with Brutus through the later more disturbing tales.... It left me in tears. Of course, I loved others. That leatherboy bodyguard was a surprise. And your magical ones like the guy with the voodoo doll. Or that one with the Spirit House and the man meeting the headhunters. The point of view was tricky, but you pulled it off wondefully. I think my favorite piece was the one you expressed reservations about. "The Clone." It was the darkest piece in my opinion. It reminded me of the horrific ways lab chimps are treated and I was saddened. Karmic retribution to humans maybe but not a pleasant thought. Who would think one could feel sympathy for one's "replacement parts"? Talk about objectification of the body! I get the creepy crawlies thinking about such a thing. Your work has a wonderful impressionistic quality. A painter's eye translated to the printed page. With the haunting quality of unearthly music like siren songs, valkryie chants, banshee wails. Rich in sensory detail. Like a great tapestry. Woven by day and unraveled by night. You make it look easy. What a fantastic collection! Congratulations!
